How To Keep Your Bed Sheets Bright and Clean Longer

You’ve worked hard all day.  It’s time to relax, maybe read a book before turning out the light.  You sink into your comfy mattress with the just-cleaned sheets. You know the feeling.  We’ve all been there.  There isn’t much better than falling asleep on your favorite just-cleaned sheets after a hard day’s work.  But, what if those sheets aren’t looking so clean anymore?  Good sheets are expensive!  Let’s keep our sheets looking nice and bright longer.  Here’s how…

Don’t Grab The Bleach!

Most people associate clean and brighter clothing with bleach, but think of this…Why do your white T-shirts get yellow stains under the armpits? It’s not just the moisture from sweat.  It’s also the bleach you used in the White/Hot Cycle in your washing machine.  Bleach can yellow cottons and most sheets are made of cotton!

Don’t Wash Your Sheets With Your Towels

Towels are heavier than sheets and will take longer to dry in a load.  This can cause you to over dry your sheets and the end result will be you struggling to get a fitted sheet on your bed that used to fit.

Towels are also filled with lint and will release the lint all over your sheets.  And we all know how hard lint is to remove!about:blank

Do Grab These Ingredients When Cleaning Your Sheets

Ok…so we’ve told you what NOT to do when washing your sheets.  So, how should you wash them to keep them nice and fresh for longer?  Go grab these ingredients and follow the simple steps belowYou’ll need:

  • 1 cup of baking soda to deodorize the sheets
  • 2 TBSP of non-scented dishwashing liquid
  • 1 lemon squeezed – used to brighten the stains out of the sheets
  • Large container filled with hot water (or your bathtub filled 1/4 of the way)
  • 2 cups of white distilled vinegar

WE LOVE TO CLEAN! AND IT SHOWS IN ALL THE DETAILS!Steps:

  1. Fill a container with hot water or fill the bathtub ¼ of the way full
  2. Sprinkle in your baking soda
  3. Pour in your dishwashing liquid
  4. Pour in your white distilled vinegar
  5. Squeeze a whole lemon in the mix
  6. Stir
  7. Let your sheets sit for 30 minutes
  8. Then wring out as much excess liquid as possible
  9. Wash as you normally would in the washing machine

We strongly recommend you use this process with soiled sheets from blood, sweat, makeup, urine and other bodily fluids before you grab the bleach and those stains turn yellow.  The only yellow you want to see in this process is the yellow from the lemon squeeze!

Enjoy Your Bed Linens Longer

We hope these simple tricks will help you enjoy your nice bed sheets much longer.  And, after you have completed the process, put the sheets back on your bed and curl up with a nice book before turning in for the night.  You deserve it!  Sleep tight!

The Texas Heat and your trash can are not friends!

Got teenagers at home this summer? Are they going crazy in the house? I’ve got the perfect solution…Make them clean out the trash and recycle outside garbage cans! Heck ask them to clean out all of the trash cans in the house too while they are at it. A really easy way to clean them is to make sure you perform this task early in the morning when the trash can is empty and the Texas heat is low. Take your empty bottle of laundry detergent and fill it with water. It for sure has more soap in it that water and a good shake can remove from the inside plastic. Fill your trash cans up two third’s of the way and empty your water filled laundry detergent bottles for added soap. Use a high pressure nozzle on the hose to rinse the inside and outside and let the garbage cans soak for at least 2 hours. Turn them upside down to dry and say goodbye to flies in the trash!

How To Clean A Vacuum Properly

With the price of vacuums being between $45 and $2500 we rarely think about the maintenance side of the vacuum.  We usually just worry about the suction and the bags being replaced. The common plug-in and go is the biggest mistake we make with our vacuums. They require maintenance so that we do not have to keep replacing them every other year. Here are a few tips to lengthen the life of your vacuum.

First unplug your vacuum before cleaning.

If you have a bagless vacuum, empty the canister after every use.

If your vacuum requires a bag, check the bag after every cleaning so that you know when the bag has reached the “full” line (which is not when the bag is at capacity but when the dirt in the bag is full to the line across the bag that says full.) You are not saving money by filling the whole bag. By filling the bag to the rim you are destroying your vacuum and it forces the motor to work harder than usual, then causing clogs.

Clean the roll on the bottom of the vacuum and rid it of hair and debris. You may need a pair of scissors to cut all the hair and carpet that has wrapped itself around the roll. The more hair and debris that is wrapped around the roll the quicker the belt will break on the vacuum causing the nastiest rubber odor!

You may need to completely remove the brush roll from the vacuum to clean it properly. After removing the brush roll clean out the air passages by wiping them off with a damp rag.

To disinfect the vacuum, spray a solution of water, tea tree oil and vinegar on the roll and let it dry before use.

If you have a clog in the hose use a broom handle to gently push the clog through and out.

Are you masking carpet odors rather than getting rid of them

If you want to save the environment and money at the same time buy a box of Baking soda instead of these carpet odor masking bottles that cost at the most $5. These popular carpet fresheners are dangerous! They harm your pets, clog your vacuum and change the air quality in your home. When we have indoor pets we tend to sprinkle this on the carpets to freshen them, however they tend to just mask the odor built into the carpet fibers. If you are experiencing odors in your carpet first steam clean them at least once a year to pull the odors out without using any chemicals. For regular maintenance sprinkle Baking soda on the carpet and let sit as long as possible, usually overnight, then vacuum. The baking soda is not harmful to pets or humans. Baking soda does not mask the odor it rids the odors from the carpets and the air. It will not clog your vacuum either. Save the environment, your pets and breathe easier today by buying a box of baking soda. Austin eco friendly maid service Round Rock eco friendly maid service

Do you know there Is a company that cleans your outdoor trash cans

I just stumbled along a company that cleans out outdoor trash cans. How amazing. This is a job that probably gets done once a year by homeowners if that. The company Is called TX Clean Cans. They can be found on the web for pricing Every person needs to utilize this service. While looking over the site I noticed that monthly service for cleaning out 1 trash can and 1 recycling bin is only $15. After using this service or even cleaning you own trash can out get into the habit of bagging and tying a knot in all trash that is thrown in the can. This stops horrible odors and germs from spreading. www.txcleancans.com Austin Eco friendly maid service Round Rock Eco friendly maid service

Non touch soap dispensers are the new best thing!

I have noticed that Lysol had recently put on the market a non touch soap dispenser. It is the first one of it’s kind that is in the price range of under $20 (around $10 if you can find coupons). I do not like the harsh Lysol soap but the dispenser is a great idea. I bought a non touch soap dispenser from Bed Bath and Beyond from the common household brand Simple Human. Its cost was around $20 to $40 depending on the size. You add your own soap to the dispenser and batteries then place your hand under the dispenser and soap automatically comes out in just the right amount. It reminds me of the non touch system in the public restrooms. It would be awesome if I could find a faucet dispenser for this price range, my bathrooms and kitchen hand washing station would be a germ free zone. The handle on the kitchen and bathroom sinks and soap dispensers get extremely grimy and full of germs. They are the first things we go to grab before washing hands and the last things we touch after we wash our hands. So are we defeating the cleansing purpose? Not if we have a non touch soap and water dispenser!! I recommend buying and kind of non touch soap dispenser and adding your own eco friendly hand soap.
